Psychology and helping others has been a passion of mine since I was young. Throughout portions of my life, I have seen friends and family become incarcerated. As a kid I had a difficult time understanding the repercussions and why they were treated so differently after release. After falling on hard times, and becoming homeless in 2017, I became close with multiple people at shelters and motels. Their experiences gave me wisdom on the nature of the prison system, the treatment they receive, and the daily struggle they face. It opened up my eyes, heart and mind as well as gave me the drive to want to help others who have or are going through the same things.
At the beginning of this year I was introduced to FailSafe-ERA by CEO Juanita Shanks. Hearing her inspiring message and story, as well meeting the wonderful family of volunteers, I knew that this was the family of warm and passionate people I wanted to volunteer with. I have never been more inspired and fulfilled working with clients and seeing their successes and efforts throughout everything.
