Message from FailSafe-ERA CEO, Juanita Shanks

Dear Friends and Families,

For a little over 10 years, FailSafe-ERA has been guided by a singular focus; which is to empower and restore hope to inmates, returning citizens (formerly incarcerated), and family members affected by incarceration, for both adult and youth offenders; addressing attitudes, behaviors, and mindsets to overcome their life-altering challenges and decisions. We believe that most people have the desire to do the right thing and what they are capable of doing to maximize their potential.

As a result of COVID-19, returning citizens are being released early, and in many cases without resources, jobs, clothing and more importantly homes to live in. They are missing the basics. Our programs include training for adults and children that are affected by incarceration, to help them meet their goals. We do not want their last resort to immediately turn back to where they had housing, in jail, where they had meals, in jail, and where they had medical care, in jail.

COVID-19 has affected every single organization and their fundraising efforts. Our goal is to help our returning citizen’s transition back into a safe environment, but our resources are drying up and we do not want to close our doors. We are asking for your help.

Our goal is a joint effort to keep our communities safe and help people become gainfully employed with an income that can support themselves and their families; and prevent generations of incarceration.

FailSafe-ERA announces two major fundraising events

Please consider donating to FailSafe-ERA to keep our doors open

First, our Annual Black Tie and Fundraising Gala, normally scheduled for August, has been scheduled for October 24, 2020, due to COVID 19. This event will be held at the Fredericksburg Expo and Convention Center and includes an exciting array of speakers including Mr. Tony Lewis, a community leader, workforce development specialist, re-entry expert, and champion for children with incarcerated parents.

Mr. Lewis has fought relentlessly over the past 16 years to uplift and empower men, women, and children impacted by mass incarceration. His work and advocacy have been featured on CNN, BET, Elite Daily, and in the Washington Post. He is the winner of many awards including the Steve Harvey/Ford Motor Company “Best Community Leader” award and the Presidential Call to Service—

We hope that you will join us for this night of interesting speakers, fine dining, dancing, and of course, our silent auction. You can find more information about this event on our website at

https://www.failsafe-era.org/black-tie-event-2020. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Be sure to check them out.

The second event is scheduled for 2021 – it is our first-ever Annual Golf and Fundraising Event. This event will be held at the Fredericksburg Country Club on May 17, 2021. We are so excited about bringing this event to the community. In the coming months, be sure to check our website for additional details about participation and sponsorship opportunities.

In the meantime, if you have ideas about additional fundraisers you’d like to see FailSafe-ERA host, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at failsafeera@gmail.com
