WIGS Launch

Greetings - on November 2, we launched our WIGS (Women Inspiring GirlS) program, serving young ladies ages 11-18. WIGS is a preventative program. The goal of WIGS is to walk alongside parents and caregivers to raise up healthy, successful, vibrant young ladies to prevent generations of incarceration.

We were honored with the presence of Ms. Tyresha Baine, our speaker, who shared her journey of adverse childhood experiences that led to the launch of Girls United 4 Life. Of note, she shared with the young and older ladies the importance of staying connected to your loved ones and journaling your thoughts. 20 year Tyresha was fully exonerated of a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill, stemming from a heated argument with her then boyfriend. It can happen to anyone...

Mrs. Terri Loveless, WIGS Program Manager, shared that with the increase of female incarceration WIGS will ensure we are addressing those areas that causes one to slip into a crime of passion, substance abuse and misuse, low self-esteem, etc. She shared that we have a full year of events and activities planned.

We welcomed 8 young ladies into the WIGS program that will officially start on January 4 from noon until 2:00. They are excited and so are we.

I would also like to thank all of the mentors and volunteers that also attended the launch, expressing their desire to help. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful, professional ladies willing to give of their time.
